| Sundance Selects has picked up N. American distribution rights to the Abdellatif Kechiche-directed film, starring Lea Seydoux and Adele Exarchopoulos. Reports Variety. The film written by Ghalia Lacroix and Kechiche based on the comic by Julie Maroh, had its world premiere at at Cannes in competition and is produced by Wild Bunch, Alcatraz Films and Quat’Sous Films.
The original French title is La vie d'Adèle, and The story follows a teenage girl who dreams of finding her true love and meets a stranger who falls for her. | Paramount Pictures' "Star Trek Into Darkness" claimed the top spot at this weekend's box office, posting $70.5 million from 3,868 theaters. The J.J. Abrams sci-fi action/adventure averaged $14,241 per theater, with IMAX claiming $13.5 million or 16% of the weekend total. In total, IMAX's global cume from the film has been $20 million thus far. Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberpatch, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Karl Urban and Simon Pegg star, among others. Pic has turned in a four-day gross of over $84.09 million from N. American showings since opening on May 16th.
In second, Paramount Pictures' "Iron Man 3" which passed the $1 billion worldwide cume recently, grossed $35.1 million on its third weekend run. Total worldwide gross after just 23 days is $1.073 billion, and now the 9th highest grossing film all-time, both internationally, and worldwide. Of that gross, $337.7 comes from N. American showings. | Spoof comedy A Haunted House 2 has premiered a new poster and very rapidly so. The first film opened January this year, and we already have the first teaser for the sequel which debuts March 28th, 2014.
Star Marlon Wayans returns and also scripts part 2 with Rick Alvarez. There's no info on the plot of course. A Haunted House scored big time at the domestic box office with $40.04 million earned from a tiny $2.5 million production budget. | Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures' Iron Man 3 grossed a massive estimated weekend debut of $175.3 million on its N. American debut, and has already accumulated a global take of over $680 million in a mere 12 days of release. Extraordinary.
The Shane Black film opened in 4,253 theaters, grossing $68.3 million on Friday, following that with $62.2 million on Saturday, and is expected to pull in around $44.7 million from Sunday's showings. The only film that beat Iron Man 3 as far as the highest grossing debut was in fact it Marvel's The Avengers. Internationally, the film starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Shane Black and Rebecca Hall, has made over $504.8 million, according to Disney. | Slade, who's now directed 3 episodes of Hannibal, has boarded the psychological thriller written by Ray Wright which tells of a young woman who makes friends with a lonely widow and learns that their meeting was no coincidence.
Perhaps the lonely widow's actually some kind of giant spider? Or is that too Stephen King's-It-styled? As long as there's no red-nosed clown, I'm game. Vendome is financing and the company's CEO Philippe Rousselet is producing along with Alix Madigan and Steve Golin of Anonymous Content. | Emilia Clarke's landed her first role after signing with CAA in October, and joins Garden of Last Days. The film looks at family and sexual values over one night in a stripe club in Florida where Clarke apparently plays a stripper who brings her three-year-old daughter to work.
That's quite a leap from her role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's excellent Game of Thrones series. Garden of Last Days is being financed by Nu Image/Millennium Films.
