Star Trek Sequel Already In Production
Either there are a ton of trekkies out there writing in or everyone loved the trailer, because the movie isn't even out yet (comes out May 8th), and they have already re-hired and hired new writers, and began working on the sequel! The current producer and director, J.J. Abrams, has also agreed to produce the sequel. With a director, producer, and writers already working on it, they plan to have the script completed by Christmas and the movie released by 2011. Damon Lindelof (Lost), one of the writers, said "There's obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn't even come out yet. But we're so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed. Obviously we discussed ideas, but we are waiting to see how audiences respond next month. With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. We'll be ambitious about what we'll do." If the movie FAILS (most likely not with all the dork trekkies out there), we are thinking the sequel will more than likely be canceled or go straight to DVD.
