Is Tom Cruise Really Remaking Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid?
The short answer: No, probably not. But the way Hollywood has been hellbent on remaking just about every movie that made a profit in the last 30 years gives The Daily Express' suspect rumor at least an air of plausibility. Anyone who remembers The Daily Mail's "scoop" that Batman 3 would star Eddie Murphy and Shia LaBeouf knows to take the British tabloids' rumor-mongering with a grain of salt - which is exactly what I'd suggest you do with this one too. The Express is claiming that after years of having the project "on the back-burner", Tom Cruise is finally ready to remake the 1969 Paul Newman and Robert Redford classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. An unnamed "associate" claims Cruise got Newman's blessing before the screen legend passed away last September and that he wants to play Redford's Sundance, with friend and fellow Scientologist John Travolta taking the role of Newman's Butch. According to a "senior executive", Cruise is already taking meetings with screenwriters about the redo. If you ask me, this rumor is nothing more than grade-A BS, but let's hear it from you: would you be at all interested in a Butch Cassidy remake starring Cruise and Travolta? Share
